The End of History and The Return of History
Dereliction of Internationalism
The era of being a responsible global citizen is being replaced by the era of finding a tribe. Examining the factors that drove the international order into being and major shifts in factors of the continued existence of the international system over time reveal why a current global shift in internationalism is taking place and where the international system is headed. The dereliction of incentivization for being a responsible global citizen has driven global citizenry to form new partnerships with new incentive structures which do not resemble the same progress of internationalism's recent history, these new incentive structures resemble the same history known for many centuries prior. That old incentive structure is structural realism and strategic global competition. This seems an oddity given that a main tenet of progressive theory is that progress must always move forwards, it can never be undone. This begs the question then, is internationalism fading and if so by what degree? Internationalism is innovative, but at what degree of fading would internationalism no longer be considered progress? The speed of change, the tidal waves of movement in the system, the same as shifting from fourth to fifth gear in a DeLorean. The lingering question is, do we need roads where internationalism is headed?
